Year 10

All Music courses offered at Prendiville are designed to encourage students to participate in musical activity as both a recreational and a vocational choice. It may serve as a pathway for further training and employment in a range of professions within the Music Industry, or simply as a means of experiencing the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from performing, analysing and making music. Whatever the reason, Music at Prendiville is an exciting, vibrant and popular choice for students.

The Year 10 Music Performance and Technology (PTech) course provides students with creative and performance opportunities, and practical music industry skills. With a focus on playing music and exploring contemporary music influences and artists, this course provides a solid foundation for further study or involvement in the music industry. Year 10 PTech is a practical course with an emphasis on practical music activities and experiences and provides a unique opportunity to develop employment related skills such as creativity, teamwork, responsibility, problem solving, initiative and self-confidence. Assessment in PTech is highly practical, culminating in a number of performances both in-class and in public. Students also have the opportunity to perform in the 300 seat Redmond Theatre, and learn recording and music production skills using our custom built recording studio.

Prerequisite: The study of Year 9 Music Performance and Technology is an advantage but not essential.  Some previous instrumental, vocal or music technology experience is required.

Pathway: This course leads to Certificate III Music Industry in Years 11 and 12 and/or Year 11 General Music.
