The Certificate II in Music prepares students to perform a range of tasks in the music industry, using practical elements and fundamental operational knowledge in environments that require foundational skills in music performance, music making or composition, sound production or music business.

The program is suited to students with an interest in music who are keen to develop their skills as a musician or producer with the aim to perform, use music technology and be involved with live music events. Career and pathways opportunities may lead to roles such as studio assistant, performer or session musician, entry-level producer, stagehand, songwriter, and road crew member.

The Certificate II course makes prime use of our industry-standard recording studio, 300-seat theatre, music technology lab and purpose-built control room, all fitted with a complete package of industry-standard recording and sound equipment and Logic software.

The Certificate II is designed to gives students a strong basis for the Certificate III in Year 11 and 12, while also giving students enough theory skills should they decide to pursue Year 11 General Music. It also provides students with a recognised industry qualification as well as a credit of 4 units towards their WACE.

Our College partners with Cosamp, a registered training organisation for the Certificate II in Music. Students selecting this course will be enrolled with this RTO and inducted into their requirements at the beginning of Year 10.

Whilst this is predominantly a practical course, written components will be required. These will be completed in full and to a high standard in order to meet the requirements of the Western Australian Curriculum.

Cost: There is an additional cost of approximately $250 (subject to change) to cover the VET auspicing and workshop fees.

Prerequisite: The study of Year 9 Music Performance and Technology is an advantage but not essential. Some previous instrumental or vocal experience is required.

If students haven’t studied Music in Year 9, they may be required to attend an interview with the Head of Performing Arts to discuss their suitability for the course.

Pathway: This course leads to Year 11 Certificate III Music Industry (Part One) or Year 11 General Music.
