Performing Arts (Dance)
Year 7
The Performing Arts (Dance) course at Prendiville is a vibrant, unique and creative subject offered to all Year 7 students. Throughout this course, students will learn basic performance skills for being on stage, build confidence and develop and refine group-work strategies in our modern Performing Arts Centre, which include the specialist Dance Studio and the Redmond Theatre.
This course allows students to improve their dance skills, focusing on developing technical competence in relation to body control, accuracy, posture/alignment, strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Student are provided with opportunities to present dance to an audience, developing their performance skills of expression, projection, and focus. As students make and respond to dance, they reflect on the meaning, interpretations, and purposes of dance.
Course requirements: Students are required to have a pair of ‘theatre blacks’ for this subject (black pants or shorts and a black t-shirt). It must be clothing suitable for the study of both Drama and/or Dance skills.
Pathway: This course leads to Year 8 Dance and/or Year 8 Prendiville Specialised Dance.
Performing Arts (Drama)
Year 7
The Performing Arts course at Prendiville is a vibrant, unique and creative subject offered to all Year 7 students. Throughout this course, students will learn basic performance skills for being on stage, build confidence and develop and refine group-work strategies in our modern Performing Arts Centre, which includes the Drama Studio and the Redmond Theatre.
Drama students are given the opportunity to plan, develop, and present drama to peers using selected drama forms and styles. Year 7s at Prendiville study the genre of Circus, and present a circus act involving a ringmaster introduction, a clown skit, magic tricks, and acrobatic or skilled finale. In creating this finished product, students will gain an understanding of physical storytelling, improvisation, and effective group-work processes.

Pathway: This course leads to Year 8 Drama.
