Travelling to the College
We are a community College with 25% of our students living within 2kms of the College and 75% within 5kms. The College has invested in a secure bike shelter for students to store their bikes securely during the day.
The benefits of riding to school are well researched and include:
- Fewer cars on the roads resulting in less traffic congestion around the College,
- Improvement in concentration, recall, and ability to understand the material being taught.
- Physically active students are healthier, happier, and more socially connected. Physical activity is ranked second to tobacco control as the most important factor in disease prevention in Australia.
- Less pollution; and
- Biking to school fosters independence and teaches responsibility. Children learn valuable life skills like planning their route, managing time, and taking care of their bicycles. This newfound independence can boost self-esteem and confidence.
