Travelling to the College

We are a community College with 25% of our students living within 2kms of the College and 75% within 5kms. The College has invested in a secure bike shelter for students to store their bikes securely during the day.

The benefits of riding to school are well researched and include:

  • Fewer cars on the roads resulting in less traffic congestion around the College,
  • Improvement in concentration, recall, and ability to understand the material being taught.
  • Physically active students are healthier, happier, and more socially connected. Physical activity is ranked second to tobacco control as the most important factor in disease prevention in Australia.
  • Less pollution; and
  • Biking to school fosters independence and teaches responsibility. Children learn valuable life skills like planning their route, managing time, and taking care of their bicycles. This newfound independence can boost self-esteem and confidence.

Social Media

Schools are more and more having to deal with the impact of social media use on the school environment. The College has a very limited ability to respond to events that take place outside of school time and off Campus.
We recommend you have rules around the use of a phone/social media in your home, such as limiting their use to a visible area such as the family dining table
The Office of the eSafety Commissioner (https://www.esafety.gov.au/) is a helpful resource and should be your first point of contact to seek advice on concerning social media use.
While students are permitted to have their phone on them at the College, we recommend they keep them in their lockers for the day and they are not to be used during the school day.
Students need to be mindful of posting anything online that has been filmed on College grounds or involves other students that can be identified as attending Prendiville without the permission of the College Principal.
The College Cafe no longer accepts payment via phones.
