Prendiville Specialised Music

Year 8

The Music Department at Prendiville is a unique, vibrant and exciting area. The Prendiville Specialised Music course is designed for those students currently learning a musical instrument or voice either within or outside of the College, who are either highly skilled, wishing to pursue Music as a subject in upper school, and/or have a strong interest in or passion for the subject.

The PSM course covers topics such as musicianship, composition, basic music knowledge and performance, and is structured to allow students the opportunity to extend their skills as a musician and performer. Learning will also be extended through co-curricular activities, instrumental or vocal tuition and involvement in small and large ensembles.

Specialised Music in Year 8 consists of a 55-minute curricular class, a group or individual lesson with a specialist instrumental or vocal tutor on a rotating timetable and a large ensemble rehearsal.

Students currently on the Specialised Band Scholarship Programme must select this course.

Important Note – Students currently enrolled in the Year 7 PSM Music course are expected to continue with this particular stream in Year 8. However, any student may apply for entry, including those currently studying the Year 7 General Music course.  All new entries into the course are at the discretion of the Head of Performing Arts.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Year 7 Prendiville Specialised Music Course (PSM) or upon application to the Head of Performing Arts.

Pathway: This course leads to Year 9 Prendiville Specialised Music (PSM).
