The Year 7 Mathematics course will have a strong focus on numeracy skills, particularly on proficiency with multiplication tables. There will also be an emphasis on problem solving and correct setting out of work.
Topics covered will include whole numbers, decimals, fractions, time, measurement, geometry, 3D drawings, graphing and introductory algebra. Students will utilise skills developed in these topics to learn about Mathematics and how it is used in decision making and problem solving. They will be exposed to both practical and abstract situations, and will develop as independent learners.
In the first semester of Year 7, all students will do a common course. Results obtained during the course of this semester will then be used to stream students into three different courses for the remainder of the year. The Advanced course is intended for the more mathematically-able students, Intermediate for those students of average mathematical ability and the Foundation course for those who require the work to be taken at a slower pace and who need more individual attention.
