STEM - Science & Mathematics Enrichment

This course is designed for students who have a keen interest in Science and/or Mathematics and are thinking of a career that is STEM related. STEM refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and is based on the premise that in many aspects of everyday life all four facets of STEM occur.

The course aims to develop critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving skills in a project based learning environment.

The STEM course includes:

  • Researching and solving problems related to everyday contexts such as Sustainable Living, Alternative Energy Resources, Disease Control, Water Conservation, Wetland Ecology and Biotechnology.
  • Participating in events such as the Annual Solar Car Challenge or CHOOSEmaths Awards.
  • Preparing students for future studies in STEM based courses at University and TAFE.

An important requirement for the course is for students to work both independently and collaboratively with others to complete projects to a high standard within a specific timeframe. All projects will require a written component and some form of presentation.

Prerequisites:  Students must achieve an A grade in Science and a minimum grade of an A in Mathematics Intermediate A.
